Why you burn out going remote and nomad.
5 of us got together to chat about remote/nomadic work-life challenges in Playa DC. Podcast.
Now that you got all this freedom, can you handle it? Can you handle yourself?
This was the theme of our chat that happened this Thursday afternoon in a recording studio in Playa Del Carmen.
When many of you guys go remote, maybe even try out the digital nomad lifestyle - you get to spend a lot of time in your own “juices”, your own “shell”, your own head. You’ll get to learn ALL ABOUT your routines, values, priorities, and time-management skills. Not because you all of a sudden will get interested in that more, but because that is what happens when you have all the freedom to design your time and your lifestyle available to you.
It's like money experts say - “If you want to know your true values - look at where you spend the most money”. It’s the same thing for your time. Now that you got the freedom to design it as you please - see what you do with that, and you’ll learn what you truly value, and what’s important to you. You’ll also learn where you totally lack skills required to maintain health and well-being - nutrition, fitness, sleep quality, focus and productivity, designing relationships and leisure that feels right - you’ll learn all about it, all about yourself. You’ll learn on your own skin what happens when you just let it be on autopilot - your sleep, exercise, eating habits, weight, social connections, it will get all messy. And you know what? That’s ok. You’ll know what works, and what doesn’t work for you, and with some dedication, you’ll know how to put it in a coherent picture of your life, whether you decide to stay remote at home or venture out to explore a new country, a new language, a completely opposite to yours culture.
That’s exactly what happened to all of us, long-term remotes and nomads from around the world - we figured our shit out, through falling, failing, and then learning from it and doing better. The best life school! If you ask any of us.
Now that you got all this freedom, can you handle it? Can you handle yourself?
Listen and watch our chat before jumping all in, or as a beginner, trying to get adjusted to this new world of work and location-independent life that more and more of us are starting to live in.
(Available on all podcast platforms and on my youtube channel).
Some of the things we chat about:
Most important things to consider before jumping fully in;
Non-negotiables of nomadic lifestyle - to keep your sanity and health;
Striking balance between:
Fun and sights and work;
Routine and spontaneity;
Healthy meals and trying all the new foods;
Adventurous eating on the street and avoiding disaster pants and worse (that can dark-color the most picturesque destination);
What to definitely avoid when traveling with a co-living partner (sorry vegans);
How to manage time commitments to grow a business, career and enjoy things that new destinations have to offer;
Why working naked isn’t the best idea;
And what’s wrong with all the working-on-the-beach-in-a-hammock pictures;
What makes any place feel like home and how it’s your job to make this happen;
Remote, nomadic at times, serendipitously “stuck” in Playa DC, enjoying work-life “balance” - this is us! TUNE IN and JOIN!

My work recently had to fire a mother who never came into the office. She preferred working from home, but when they gave her work she’d never done before, she really struggled because she hadn’t made the effort to come in and make friends, so then she didn’t haven’t anyone to ask for help when she was thrown a curve ball with work. And after working at home on my own for 4 years, I think that while flexibility with work is great, it doesn’t beat being apart of great working community and environment. Hopefully the future of work will have both.
