Where are YOU insane? We are all exercising insanity somewhere.
🍴In my mid-20s, while traveling the world I struggled with overeating. —what I later realized later was emotional eating.
I did the “insanity thing” for years!
You know Einstein’s quote?
“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.”
Every morning, I’d wake up frustrated, telling myself,
“Next time, I’ll do better. I’ll be strict. I’ll push through.”
Do you know how it ended many times after?
I did the same exact thing.
For years🤯
Insane!
(PS If you are still there – believe me, I get it)
🎯 The Turning Point
It wasn’t until I started my Precision Nutrition certification that things shifted.
I learned the GSPA Framework: Goals → Skills → Practices → Actions.
Turns out, when we fail to hit a behavior goal—like stopping overeating—it’s not about lack of willpower.
It’s about missing skills.
Once I started building those skills, everything changed.
I’d say my whole life changed!
💡 Skill #1: Emotional Regulation
I discovered that overeating was my coping mechanism.
When I felt anxious or lonely, food became my emotional stabilizer.
My body was trying to do good.
I started practicing different skills to help regulate my emotions and stress:
✍️Journaling: Writing down my thoughts helped me label and process emotions.
Reframing: Shifting perspective to focus on what I could control.
Body Awareness: Naming sensations in my body grounded me in the moment.
Walking: Just a 10-minute walk would dissolve the urge to overeat.
Talking to a friend or my mom over the phone: Social connections are powerful mood shifters.
🍎 Skill #2: Balanced Nutrition
I also realized my body was starving—literally.
Years of unbalanced dieting had deprived my brain and body of essential nutrients. Once I developed the skill of balanced eating (think protein, healthy fats, and micronutrients), not skipping meals, my cravings vanished.
Overeating stopped.
It’s been 10 years.
In fact, overeating now feels like the most impossible thing to do - even on holidays, when I’m full I’m full.
It feels the most unnatural thing to do.
⚙️ Why We Repeat Behaviors
Every behavior serves a purpose.
Overeating isn’t random - it’s solving a problem for your body or mind.
So the first step to freedom is asking: What purpose does this behavior serve?
It IS serving you somehow.
How?
Then work on the skills to address the root cause.
My recent aha.
Business is EXACTLY like this.
I keep getting the “insanity thing” because I have underdeveloped skills to address the underlying cause.
My business isn’t stuck – I have skills to work on.
So back to you dear reader - where have you been stuck for years? And what skills do you need to build to fix the root cause?
